Book Review: Allegiant by Veronica Roth

Synopsis: One choice will define you.

What if your whole world was a lie?
What if a single revelation—like a single choice—changed everything?
What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected?

The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and of herself—while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.

Pages: 526

Rating: 8/10

Overall: A thrilling, heartbreaking and fitting conclusion to this best-selling series. The action is non-stop, as are the lies and the deceit that Tris and Tobias must try to deal with. I really enjoyed this final chapter, which was unrelentingly exciting. Despite the surprising (and sad) ending, it was still hopeful.

Book Review: Insurgent by Veronica Roth

Synopsis: One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Number of pages: 525

Rating: 9/10

Overall Impression: A great sequel to Divergent. The action is relentless, and the constant feeling of not knowing who to trust or who is speaking the truth is ever present. I found myself not liking Tris as much this time around, but liking Four more and more.

Book Review: Divergent by Veronica Roth

Synopsis: In the future, 16-year-old Beatrice Prior must choose among five predetermined factions that will define her identity for the rest of her life. This decision made more difficult when she discovers that she is an anomaly who does not fit into any one group, and that the society she lives in is not perfect after all.

Number of Pages: 487

Rating: 8/10

Overall impression: Great read. Likeable female protagonist. The first two thirds of the book could be seen as slow if you like to get right to the action, but the underlying tension keeps you reading til the climatic final act.
